O fim-de-semana passado na Capela dos Ossos – Évora
Vantagens de viver num país pequeno: podemos fazer viagens diárias a cidades diferentes! O fim-de-semana passado a família toda foi a Évora passar o dia e a primeira paragem foi a Capela dos Ossos. O próprio nome é assustador e o ambiente, como podem imagibar, é um pouco macabro.
Na entrada da capela podem ler “Nós ossos que aqui estamos pelos vossos esperamos”. A capela é feita inteiramente de ossos humanos – foi construída por necessidade porque, no século XVI, os cemtérios de Évora estavam cheios. Isto alinhava com as crenças comuns da época, a ideologia de que os corpos estariam mais perto de Deus.
Bem… sim, não é a melhor atmosfera de todas. Mas é definitivamente interessante! No piso de cima podem visitar a exposição de arte sacra para limpar a mente ahah. Não é o meu tipo favorito de arte mas eu sou feliz entre as pinturas, independentemente do tema!
Last weekend in Chapel of Bones – Évora
Perks of living in a small country: I can make day trips to different cities! Last weekend the whole family went to Évora to spend the day and the first stop was Chapel of Bones. The name itself is kind of scary and the atmosphere, as you can imagine, it’s a bit macabre.
On the entrance of the Chapel you can read “We, the bones that are here, await yours”. The Chapel is made entirely of real human bones – it was constructed out of necessity because, in the 16th century, the graveyards in Évora were overcrowded. This aligned with the common beliefs of the era, the ideology that the bodies would be closer to God.
Well…. yes, not the best atmosphere of all. But it’s definitely interesting! On the floor above you can also visit the exposition of religious art to clear the mind ahah. Not my favorite type of art but I’m happy among paintings, no matter the theme!
