Se são uns apaixonados pela moda como eu e querem saber mais sobre como a magia acontece, têm de ver estes documentários! Estes são alguns dos meus documentários de moda favoritos que nos mostram a realidade – nem sempre um mar de rosas – por trás de algumas das minhas marcas favoritas. O que custa preparar um desfile de alta costura? Como é o processo criativo por trás de cada coleção? Como é a vida de um designer de moda famoso?

These are some of my favorite fashion documentaries which show us the reality – not always a bed of roses – behind some of my favorite brands. What does it take to prepare a haute couture fashion show? How is the creative process behind every collection? How is the life of a famous fashion designer?

DIOR AND I (2014)

 

Este documentário, dirigido por Frédéric Tcheng, foca-se nas oito semanas que levam ao lançamento da primeira coleção de Raf Simons na Dior. Acompanha o designer belgo desde o primeiro momento em que encara esta grande responsabilidade. O diretor dá grande relevância às divergências entre Raf Simons e Christian Dior, e aos desafios que o novo diretor criativo tem de enfrentar para aliar a class e feminismo da Dior com a sua própria visão de arte contemporânea.

Manter a história e os valores da marca é super importante para mim! No entanto, não foi esta a razão pela qual eu amei tanto este documentário. A ideia de que a moda é superficial, apenas sobre glamour e câmeras, é desconstruída aqui. Conseguimos ver o real deal. É um filme sobre profissionalismo e, acima de tudo, paixão pelo que se faz. A melhor parte é que conhecemos as costureiras e outros colaboradores que têm vindo a trabalhar na empresa nos últimos quarenta anos. E é incrível ver o enorme respeito que existe por eles.

 

This documentary, directed by Frédéric Tcheng, focuses on the eight weeks leading to the launch of the first collection of Raf Simons for Dior. It accompanies the Belgian designer from the first moment he faces this big responsibility. The director gives major relevance to the divergences between Raf Simons and Christian Dior, and the challenges the new creative director has to face in order to ally Dior’s class and feminism with his own view of contemporary art.

Maintaining the brand’s history and values is so important for me! However, this is still not the reason why I loved this documentary so much. The idea that fashion is shallow, only about glamour and cameras, get’s deconstructed here. We get to see the real deal. This is a movie about professionalism and, above all, passion for what you do. The best part is that we get to meet the seamstresses and other employees that have been working for the company in the last forty years. And it’s amazing to see the huge respect that exists for them.

7 DAYS OUT: CHANEL HAUTE COUTURE FASHION SHOW (2018)

 

7 Days Out é uma série da Netflix que mostra o behind the scenes dos últimos sete dias até ao lançamento de alguns dos maiores eventos do mundo. No quinto episódio, vemos a equipa da Chanel, liderada por Karl Lagerfeld na altura, na preparação do desfile Spring-Summer 2018 Haute Couture para a Paris Fashion Week. É preciso dizer mais alguma coisa? Para além do acesso exclusivo ao backstage, este episódio ganha uma dimensão maior quando nos apercebemos que este foi um dos últimos desfiles que Karl fez para a Chanel antes de falecer em Fevereiro de 2019.

 

7 Days Out is a Netflix series that shows us the behind the scenes of the seven days leading up to the launch of some of the biggest events in the world.  On the fifth episode, we see the Chanel team, lead by Karl Lagerfeld at the time, on the preparation of the Spring-Summer 2018 Haute Couture show for Paris Fashion Week. Do I even need to say anything else? Besides the exclusive access to the backstage, this episode gains a bigger dimension when we realize this was one of the last shows Karl did for Chanel before passing away on February 2019.

MCQUEEN (2018)

 

Provavelmente o documentário mais obscuro desta lista. Como é claro pelo título, McQueen é sobre a vida e carreira do designer Britânico Lee Alexander McQueen. Lee sonhava ser designer de moda desde criança. Na adolescência, começou em busca de estágios e eventualmente ganhou o seu muito merecido lugar na Central St. Martin’s art college onde fez o mestrado em Design de Moda. Num curto espaço de tempo tornou-se um dos designers de moda mais respeitados do mundo. A sua visão era obscura, os desfiles eram chocantes e controversos, mas é inegável que ele era brilhante no que fazia. McQueen sofria de problemas de saúde mentais e terminou a sua própria vida em 2010.

 

Probably the darkest documentary on this list. As it may be clear by the title, McQueen is all about the life and career of the British designer Lee Alexander McQueen. Lee dreamt of becoming a fashion designer since he was a kid. As a teen, he began in search of an apprenticeship and eventually earned his much deserved place at Central St. Martin’s art college where he did his Masters Degree in Fashion Design. In a short period of time he became one of the most respected designers in the world. His vision was dark, his shows were shocking and controversial, but it is undeniable that he was brilliant in his job. McQueen struggled with mental health issues and ended his own life in 2010.

MANOLO: THE BOY WHO MADE SHOES FOR LIZARDS (2017)

 

Manolo Blahnik é frequentemente considerado o melhor designer de sapatos dos séculos 20 e 21. O filme introduz-nos ao designer espanhol e mostra-nos que o segredo para o seu sucesso é estar envolvido em todas as fases de produção. Com um nome criativo e uma bela fotografia, Manolo: The boy who made shoes for lizards é um encanto. 

 

Manolo Blahnik is frequently considered the best shoe maker of the 20th and 21st centuries. The movie introduces us to the Spanish designer and shows us the secret behind his success is being involved in all the stages of production. With a creative name and beautiful photography, Manolo: The boy who made shoes for lizards is a delight.

THE SEPTEMBER ISSUE (2009)

 

A Vogue é possivelmente a revista de moda mais famosa do mundo. E a edição de Setembro é, tradicionalmente, a mais importante de todo o ano. Este documentário gira precisamente em torno do making of da edição da Vogue Setembro 2007. Podemos acompanhar Anna Wintour, Grace Coddington a todo o staff no enorme esforço que é posto na produção desta revista.

 

Vogue is probably the most famous fashion magazine in the world. And the September Vogue issue is, traditionally, the most important one of the year. This documentary revolves precisely on the making of the Vogue September 2007 issue. We get to accompany Anna Wintour, Grace Coddington and the whole staff on the big effort put into this magazine.
