Oia, Santorini

Especialmente a subida!

Of course, I couldn’t talk about Santorini without mentioning Oia. We spent an entire afternoon there, and I can confirm that it’s just as beautiful as it looks on Pinterest. The view from the old castle is breathtaking. What nobody tells you is that, if you want to walk down to Ammoudi Bay, the hike is much more challenging than it looks. Especially the climb back up! Still, it all felt like a dream until 6 p.m., when all the tourists on the island gathered to watch the sunset and, suddenly, it became impossible to move, haha. A very beautiful sunset, but I have to admit it was a bit ruined by the fact that there were WAY too many people. We had the chance to stand right next to a tour guide who taught us (actually, we overheard him) a lot of interesting things. Namely, the reason why typical Greek houses are white and blue. The white is mainly to prevent heat absorption and ensure the house stays cooler during the summer. And well, since the walls were white, the roof had to be blue to match the flag!

The restaurants and bars in Oia are also much more expensive than elsewhere on the island. You’ll most likely have an incredible view, but you have to be prepared to pay the price. Still, of course, Oia is a must-see when visiting Santorini.

So. So.
